The Waste Management Phoenix Open is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour. It is held at TPC Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona. This tournament is an extremely popular stop on the PGA Tour Roster. Its very well known for its relaxed atmosphere and raucous crowds. Who can forget that electric atmosphere as players step up on the iconic Par 3 Sixteenth! The attendance throughout the week of this tournament is usually knocking on the door of half a million, it’s the best-attended event in Golf.
One of the key performance stats around TPC Scottsdale is Driving Accuracy and Approach Play. Strokes Gained Off the Tee and Stroked Gained Approach are crucially important in pointing us to the winner. It's no surprise that heading both statistics for last years season was the formidable Scottie Scheffler. It makes a lot of sense that he is the back-to-back Champion here in Phoenix, as he clearly loves the course. It looks likely he will turn in another solid effort, but we are keen to look elsewhere at the price (6.2 with 3et Sportsbook).
At close to double the price of Scheffler, we like Justin Thomas. He is priced at 12.0 on 3et Sportsbook and this could represent some value. Thomas looks like he is beginning to hit his stride, coming off the back of a T6 finish at the AT&T. Despite what Justin would consider a poor season last year, he still finished 39th in SG: Approach the Green and 62nd in SG: Off-the-Tee. When he’s on form, JT is one of the purest ball strikers around. He finished fourth here last year and we are hoping he can go a few spots better this time around.
Selection: Justin Thomas @ 12.0 (3ET Sportsbook)
