The last few weeks on the PGA tour has produced some historical results, such as the first amateur winner since Phil Mickelson and the first ever French winner, and last week was no different. 150/1 Nick Taylor broke 400/1 Charley Hoffman’s heart with some exceptional putting in the playoff to take home the Phoenix Open.
The excitement continues as we see Tiger Woods return to action this week as he hosts the Genesis Invitational. The Riviera Country Club, although not a particularly long and iconic course, will pose its own challenges. With fairways and greens hard to find the players will have to rely on their own precision, which in many ways is like playing Augusta.
With all this in mind, my pick for this week is Patrick Cantlay. With 5 top 20s in his last 6 starts, including a 3rd and 4th place finish Cantlay has proven his suitability for the course. Cantlay led the field in strokes-gained tee-to-green last year, and his 11th place finish at Pebble Beach 2 weeks ago outperformed all the biggest names bar Scheffler there. He has been consistently solid at Riviera with none of his last 24 rounds exceeding 72. I expect him to be in the thick of things come Sunday and at 24.0 on 3et he is great value.
Prediction: Patrick Cantlay @24.0 on 3et.com
