There has been confusion as to the name of this week’s PGA Tour event, but thanks to sponsors CJ Group, the event is indeed the CJ Cup. With the PGA championship just 2 weeks away the players will be looking at this event as preparation.

Historically pre-major tournaments have lent themselves to some shock results due to the field being generally weaker. Last year saw players such as Marty Dou, CT Pan and Austin Eckroat all produce strong performances. With the de-emphasis on driving, we should expect to see plenty low scoring. With the course not being overly long the emphasis will be more on the approach shots.

My pick for this event is Tom Kim. After a T30 in The Masters and T18 2 weeks ago at the RBC Heritage it looks like he is coming to form. His approach play has also been outstanding, ranking 14th at Harbour Town and 2nd at Augusta. He finished 17th on debut at this tournament back when he was ranked 78th in the world. He has won twice in the Nevada desert at Summerlin in similar strength fields, and despite a quiet start to this season he looks to be ready this week and is great value to bet on 3et.

Prediction: Tom Kim @ 27.0
